Truck Driving: A Challenging and Rewarding Career

The pre-requisites for attending our CDL training programs are based on Department of Transportation physical examination (DOT Physical) and the companies that we work with.  At CDL Training Specialists, it is our goal to make sure you can be successful after you attend your CDL training and for years to come.

Some of the basic pre-qualifications for CDL training include:

• At least 18 years old
  
• Must hold a valid driver’s license
  
• Clean driving record
  
• No recent DUI’s
  
• Ability to pass DOT physical
  
• Must have 20/40 correctable vision in each eye (Glasses or contact lenses are permitted)
  
• Diabetics using needle-injected insulin are not permitted WITHOUT medical waiver from Colorado State Patrol (diabetics treated through diet and oral medication are permitted)
  
• High blood pressure and blood sugar levels are not permitted WITHOUT medical waiver from Colorado State Patrol
  
• Any current diagnosis of cardiac insufficiency or cardiovascular disease will require a release from your physician stating that you can drive a commercial motor vehicle without restrictions
  

In summary, you must be able to pass the DOT physical and meet the requirements for pre-qualification for CDL training. If you are unsure about your ability to pass a DOT physical examination, consult your family physician.
